"Ciudadadanas" presents valuable women who leave their mark on society through their contribution to women's empowerment, learning, and development.
Marcha #NiUnaMenos: más de medio millón de personas contra la violencia de género
There is a Peruvian group called "Ni una menos" that protests against femicides and violence against women in this Andean country. In July 2016, the movement was founded, and the August 2016 march has been described as the largest demonstration in Peruvian history.
My participation in the #NiUnaMenos march included several photography and video sessions during the day and at night. Next, I selected the best shots and music for the video. My aim was to convey a march to support women's rights as well as create audiovisual content for Revuelta Studio.
Las aventuras de Camila y el Sr. Osito
A little girl named Camila discovers the world in her own way, accompanied by her loving and loyal companion, Señor Osito. She will be taught how to defend herself against different types of dangers that can occur on the street and inside the home. The purpose of this proposal is to empower children to take precautions in today's world.
This was a reel I made to get funds for the project, and I had the idea that the videos would be made in stop motion using materials such as cardboard, colored paper, plaster, plasticine, paint and biodegradable and recyclable materials such as sand, cardboard, glass and wood. Sadly, the project did not proceed due to budget constraints.
La Purita Carne: periódica feminista
The Purita Carne is an open platform for art-action, reflection, and dissemination around gender issues. A new look and reading of the media's influence on the narratives about women's representations are proposed in these papers.
Our goal was to interview the creator of La Purita Carne, Rocío Fuentes. I recorded, edited, and musicalized the video. The interviewing was handled by my partner, and we met in a cafe to do support shots. The recording was done with a phone stabilizer, DJI OSMO Mobile, and my iPhone.
Francis: lo prohibido
Learn about Francis, a trans woman who overcame society's difficulties. During her interview, she tells us about her life in Lima Peru, coming out of the closet, the way in which she interacts with society, and her relationship with her partner and family.
We were two people who covered the recording, we were in different parts of Lima like Miraflores and Barranco to get good shots and create an atmosphere where Francis felt comfortable. The script of questions was written by me, and as Francis described her experiences, new questions kept flowing.
Colectiva Féminas
An interview with Leyla Huertas, president of Féminas, a transgender collective based in Lima, Peru. We talk with her about her work and the challenges trans people face to find decent employment. The main reason trans women fall into prostitution is that no one wants to hire them.
The first video combines footage from Feminas members with Víctor Naranjo's "Imperfecta Mujer" music video clip. I took several shots with Leyla, the members and the interviewer for the second video in which we discussed what it is like to be a trans woman in a country like Peru.
Somos ¡Ciudadanas!
Millions of women have struggled to get ahead and progress in adverse circumstances throughout history.
There are many of them who are not usually recognized in history for what they have done and will continue to do. In honor of these courageous citizens, we want to preserve their passage into history.
#PeruPaisDeVioladores
This hashtag #PeruPaisDeVioladores was created in response to the recent femicide and transfemicide crimes, attempted femicide crimes, rapes, disappearances and all forms of sexist violence against women, children, and diversity in a patriarchal society that lacks the right to a life free from violence. Every day we see rapes and increasingly cruel femicides and transfeminicides. While the conservatives in the coup congress will continue to attack women’s freedom and decision-making.
#NiUnaMenos
Peru is the fifth most insecure country for women, that needs to change. The #NiUnaMenos march is about women fighting for their rights.
A high level of ignorance
The ex-congresswoman of Peru, Nelly Cuadros, voted against the bill that removed prison benefits for rapists, and that would have allowed misfits not to be released in less than four years, just because the bill was called » Violence against women and gender: The Legislative Decree No. 938″ and she doesn’t agree with the word «gender» because, according to her, it promoted marriage with computers.
«Our votes came from several congressmen who are pro-life and pro-family because the law was called violence against women and gender. If one wants to fight violence against women, it’s against women, so what’s gender got to do with it?What’s included in that? We don’t agree with the term gender because there’s a lot of debate about it. Some people marry their computers, or they get married in groups, that’s what distorts what they call gender».
